Call for Workshops

A series of workshops will be held in conjunction with RE'11 to encourage the exchange of ideas between academia, industry, and government participants, as well as providing a forum to discuss challenging research issues in requirements engineering. Workshops will be held before the main conference: on August 29^th and 30^th, 2011.

We are particularly interested in workshop proposals that cover topics that may have controversial viewpoints or are new to the requirements engineering field, where a focused dialogue among participants may lead to interesting follow-on research, empirical investigations or industrial practice improvement.

Proposals should clearly state the topic and overall objectives of the workshop and should include short curriculum vitae of the proposed organizers.

Important Dates

Please note that these dates are earlier than in previous editions of RE in order to give organizers of accepted workshops more time to attract high-quality contributions.

RE'11 Workshop Proposal Guidelines

Proposals must not exceed four pages in length, and must be submitted electronically in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). Submissions must be formatted according to the IEEE CS proceedings format (see http://www.computer.org/portal/site/cscps/ for instructions and templates). Proposals should contain:

The motivation and objectives of the workshop
- 2-3 sentences with the motivation and objectives of the workshop topic. (Note: If your workshop is accepted then this description will be used as early publicity for the workshop).
- A more detailed discussion of the anticipated outcomes of the workshop (e.g., open research problems to pursue, validation objectives, empirical studies etc.).
The workshop format and needed services
- What will be the format for the workshop (e.g., paper presentations, keynotes, breakout sessions, panel-like discussions, combination thereof)?
- What are the requirements in terms of rooms, equipment and support staff (student volunteers)?
- Workshop organizers can work with the co-chairs to specify the services they wish to employ.
The target audience
- What type of background should the workshop attendees have?
- What mix of industry and research participants is being sought?
- What is the cap (max number of attendees) for the workshop?
- Is the workshop open to the public or by invitation only?
The workshop paper format types of contributions and evaluation
- What type of papers is being solicited for the workshop (length, position, etc.)?
- What type of evaluation process will be used?
- The potential program committee (how large will the PC be)?
The workshop paper publishing plans
- We intend to publish workshop proceedings in the IEEE digital library. If you wish to follow a different publishing plan, then describe how you intend to disseminate workshop proceedings.

- 1 or 2 days workshop?
The history of the workshop
- Have you offered this workshop before? If so, please provide a history of the venues, dates, and approximate attendance numbers.

Evaluation Criteria

Workshop proposals will be reviewed by the RE'11 Workshop Program Committee. Acceptance will be based on

Evaluation of the workshop's potential to advance the state of requirements engineering research and/or practice
Relevance to requirements engineering and topics targeted for RE'11
Potential for attracting a sufficient number of participants
Organizers ability to lead a successful workshop

Evaluation Process

All workshop proposals will be reviewed by three members of our Workshop Program Committee.

Workshop Registration

All participants, including workshop organizers and invited speakers, must pay registration fees for the workshop. However, we will offer one free registration for each 13 paid registrations at a workshop.
